Be our Guest

When did the message miss?
Not in a dramatic way. In a real way.

The Message Broke Here is a new audio/video podcast hosted by award-winning journalist and media strategist James Brown. Each episode explores a moment, big or small, when communication didn’t go as planned. Then we dig into what it taught you.

This isn’t about blame or takedowns. It’s about growth. Even the best messengers have moments that don’t land. Talking about them helps everyone get better.

Share your stories with us! Learn how below.

Tips for success

Pick a clear moment

Choose one specific experience where the message didn’t land the way you hoped. It can be public or private, big or small. The key is that it taught you something.

You don’t have to name names

This show isn’t about blaming people or exposing anyone. If something happened inside your workplace, or involved others, you can keep it anonymous or general. That’s totally fine.

We’re here to learn, not perform

There are no right answers. Come as you are. If something felt messy or hard to explain at the time, that’s probably what makes it worth sharing now.

We’ll test your mic and camera first

Plan to join 5–10 minutes early. I’ll walk you through a quick tech check to make sure everything looks and sounds good before we start recording.

Find a quiet space

Use headphones if possible. Choose a quiet spot with a simple background and good lighting (facing a window works great). If you have an external mic, even better—but not required.

The tone is reflective, not rehearsed

Think of it like a conversation between two pros who’ve both been there. We’re not scripting anything. I’ll guide us through the story, lessons, and the 10 closing questions.

The closing questions are simple

They’re inspired by Inside the Actors Studio. Quick, reflective, sometimes playful. No need to prep—just answer honestly.
